How Much Does it Cost To Resize a Ring?

A ring that's too big isn't a big deal. It happens more than you'd think, especially with a first order or a gift. Here's how to tell for sure, what your options actually are, and what it costs to fix, depending on what your ring's made from.

The Signs Your Ring is Too Big

Most guys notice it within the first few wears. It spins so the design faces the wrong way. It slides toward your knuckle when your hand's hanging by your side. It comes off on its own when your hands get cold, wet, or soapy. None of that means anything's wrong with the ring. It just means it's a size or so bigger than it needs to be.

A quick way to check: push it gently from the back of your finger toward your palm. If it moves past the knuckle without any resistance at all, it's too big. If it needs a firm push and springs back once you let go, it's probably closer to right than you think.

Can Your Ring Actually be Resized?

This depends entirely on what it's made from, and it's the first thing to check before you go anywhere near a jeweller.

Sterling silver and 18ct gold vermeil rings can be resized. A jeweller can cut the band, adjust it, and reshape it, usually within a size or two of the original.

Stainless steel and tungsten rings can't be resized. Not by us, and not by a jeweller either. The materials that make them scratch-resistant and built to last are the same reason they can't be cut and reshaped.

What Resizing Costs (When It's an Option)

For sterling silver and gold vermeil pieces, resizing is a job for a local jeweller rather than something we do in-house. Cost varies by jeweller and by how many sizes you're moving, so it's worth getting a quote before you commit. As a rule, moving a size or two is a modest, one-off job. Bigger adjustments cost more and can affect how the piece sits long-term, so ask your jeweller to talk you through it rather than assuming it's a like-for-like fix.

Why Stainless Steel and Tungsten Can't be Resized

It comes down to the same strength that makes these pieces worth wearing every day. Tungsten in particular is one of the hardest metals used in jewellery, which is exactly why it doesn't scratch, bend, or dull the way softer metals do. That same hardness means it can't be cut and rejoined without breaking. We've written more on why that's actually a good thing over in our tungsten ring guide, worth a read if you're deciding between materials.

What to Do if the Size is Wrong

If your ring doesn't fit, whatever it's made from, you don't need to sort it yourself. We offer size exchanges across the full ring range, including stainless steel and tungsten. Check your order confirmation or get in touch with our team and they'll sort the right size from there.

Get It Right Next Time

The easiest fix is getting the size right before you order. It takes a couple of minutes and saves the back and forth entirely. Our guide on how to measure your ring size at home walks through three ways to do it with things you've already got lying around.

FAQs

How Do I Know if My Ring is Too Big Without Taking It to a Jeweller?

Push it gently from the back of your finger toward your palm. If it slides past the knuckle with no resistance, it's too big. If it takes a firm push and springs back into place, it's likely closer to the right size than it feels.

Can Stainless Steel Rings be Resized?

No. Stainless steel can't be cut and rejoined without compromising the ring, which is the same reason it holds up so well day to day. If the size is wrong, an exchange is the right route rather than resizing.

How Much Does It Cost to Resize a Silver or Gold Vermeil Ring?

It depends on the jeweller and how many sizes you're adjusting. Moving a size or two is typically a modest, one-off cost. It's worth getting a quote locally rather than assuming a fixed price.

Do CRAFTD Rings Come With a Size Exchange?

Yes, across the full range, including stainless steel and tungsten. If your size is wrong, get in touch and we'll sort the right one.

What's the Best Way to Find My Ring Size Before Ordering?

Measure a ring you already own, use a printable sizing guide, or try a simple string method at home. Our full guide on measuring your ring size at home covers all three.

Find the Right Fit, the First Time

A ring that doesn't quite fit isn't the end of it. Whether it's a quick exchange or a trip to your local jeweller, there's always a straightforward way to sort it. Measure right the first time, and it's one less thing to think about.
