Why Tungsten Wedding Bands Are the Best Choice for Men

Choosing a wedding band should be simple. But these days, it's become anything but. The market is flooded with options that just don’t make sense for us men anymore. There’s strange materials you’ve never heard of, outdated trends, overpriced metals, and a lot of empty promises.

Most of us guys don’t care about all that stuff. What we really want to know is: Is it durable? Is it reliable? Is it worth the money? And, most importantly, is it the best choice? After all, a wedding ring should last forever, and you should only need to buy it once. At CRAFTD, we get that. That’s why we choose Tungsten. So, tap any of our most asked questions below, and let's jump straight to the answers you’re looking for:

Is Tungsten the Most Durable Metal for Men's Wedding Bands?

When it comes to durability, nothing beats Tungsten. It’s the toughest metal used in men’s rings, perfect if you’re someone who’s active, works with your hands, or just doesn’t want to worry every time you grab your keys. It’s scratch-proof, virtually indestructible, and will happily take a beating on a daily basis.

They scratch easily, pick up dents, and wear down faster than you’d expect. oh, and they cost more too. A lot more. Even titanium, which has a great reputation for its strength, doesn’t fully deliver. Sure, it can take a hit, but it’s not nearly as scratch resistant as you’ll need it to be.

These days most guys want an all rounder, and Tungsten ticks all the boxes: it’s strong, scratch-resistant, and dependable. If you’re looking for a ring you can rely on every day, this is it.

Do Tungsten Wedding Rings Come in Gold or Silver?

Yes. While natural Tungsten has a modern gunmetal look, it can also be finished in real 18ct gold or silver. These wedding rings are perfect if you want the durability of Tungsten with the timeless look of traditional metals. Tungsten rings can even be oxidised at over 800 degrees to achieve a deep jet-black finish like this one.

That said, not all gold and silver Tungsten rings are made to the same standard, so it’s important to check the micron thickness of the coating. Some cheaper alternatives apply only a thin layer, which can very quickly lead to chipping and fading. Anything over 2.5 microns is a good sign.

At CRAFTD, every Tungsten wedding ring is finished with an extra thick layer of real 18K gold or silver. And while the Tungsten core is naturally scratch-resistant, we take it two steps further. Each ring is sealed with a dual coating of rhodium and PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition), locking in its colour and shine for a lifetime of daily wear.

Are Tungsten Wedding Bands Comfortable?

Great question. If you’ve never worn a ring before, it can definitely feel a bit strange at first. Will it be uncomfortable? Will it get in the way? Is Tungsten the most comfortable option? All valid questions, but the truth is, no metal is more comfortable than another. In fact, comfort doesn’t come from the metal itself. It comes from the design.

Tungsten wedding bands are the most durable option, but that means nothing if they’re not the most comfortable option too. At CRAFTD, we spent years perfecting the fit, using a slightly rounded interior that sits smoothly on your finger. We call it ‘comfort fit’. The design covers less skin on your finger, reduces friction, and gives a snug, secure feel without being too tight.

You can read more about it here, but this fit helps prevent slipping, pinching, and constant adjusting. Chances are, you’ll forget it’s even there… until someone notices and compliments you on it. Just keep in mind, anything new takes a little getting used to. Give it a week or two to settle in, and after that, you’ll be good to go.

Can Tungsten Rings be Resized?

Tungsten wedding rings cannot be resized, but don’t let that scare you off. It’s actually a good thing. If a ring can be melted down and resized, it’s probably not strong enough to last forever, and definitely not worth your time or money.

Tungsten, on the other hand, is so incredibly strong that any attempt at resizing it would actually compromise its durability. But we hear you: “What if my ring size changes?” Don’t worry, CRAFTD has you covered. Every Tungsten wedding band we make comes with a lifetime warranty. So, if your finger size ever changes, we’ll replace your ring for free, forever.
